The Tremec TKO 600 5-speed manual transmission has become one of the most popular conversions for many early model GM cars. If you already have a 4-speed transmission in your car, it’s just about a bolt-in change. When the Tremec is in 5th gear, there is a 36% reduction in engine rpm compared to a 3 or 4-speed which has a 1 to 1 ratio in high gear. The Tremec TKO 5-speed has the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the Saginaw and Muncie transmissions so the original GM cast iron or aluminum bell housing can be used. The top-loader design of the Tremec gives superior positive shifts with no linkage to bind or get out of adjustment.
