We're Looking For 29 Special 1958 Chevys
By Robert Snowden
What a great time I've had over the past several weeks receiving both prints and e-mails of your original-color 1958 Chevrolets. At first I thought no one was going to respond, but then the photos started pouring in. Soon, I had many duplicate color '58 Chevys. However, as promised, the first color '58 seen this month is the first one I received. I thought I would get buried in Rio Red '58s, but to my surprise the Rio Red’s were tied with the Cashmere Blues. As I write this View, I am missing three 1958 original colors.
We here at Late Great Chevy want to wish the 1958 Chevrolet "Happy 50th Anniversary" and to celebrate, we invite you to sit back and enjoy the following 1958 original color parade!
Onyx Black RPO 900
The restoration of this '58 took four years and eight months and was completed in June of this year, 2008. The trial run was to The Carlisle GM Show on June 20th where the '58 was an invitational display on the stage. I hauled many parts home from Carlisle for this restoration project.

Rio Red RPO 923
The frame-off restoration of this convertible was completed in July of 2006. My thanks to Ricky Hill of Lexington, North Carolina, who did the work. We started showing this convertible the day we picked it up and it won its AACA Junior Award on the way home. From there it was on to a Senior Award, Grand National Award and in the spring of 2008 a Senior Grand National Award. This '58 Impala is a blast to own!

I've owned this '58 Impala convertible for about six years. It features 50,000 original miles and the interior is still original. I did replace the convertible top, carpet and sill plates. Options include: power brakes, power steering, pushbutton radio and a factory continental kit.

Forest Green RPO 905
I've owned this 1958 Biscayne for over 40 years. It's powered by a 348ci engine and 3-speed on the column. This '58 was my daily driver for many years and now it is driven only on weekends. I've always liked the Forest Green color.

Cashmere Blue RPO 910
This 1958 Impala hardtop is powered by a 348 engine. I purchased this '58 in 1993 and the body and frame were in great condition, but the car had been stripped of nearly every part. It took me until 1999 to find the needed parts to complete the restoration.

Glen Green RPO 903
I graduated from high school in 1958. I thought the '58 Impala convertible was the most beautiful car ever and I still do! In 1974, I was able to purchase this Glen Green beauty. The car features the green combination interior and is powered by a 348ci tri-power engine. In 1978, I added the NOS Continental kit. This '58 may be 50-years old, but every time I drive it I feel 20-years old again!

Colonial Cream RPO 925
This Impala was purchased in 1976 and it needed a lot of body work and a new paint job. When it came time to paint the car, the decision was made to return it to its original color, Colonial Cream. After many years, and a lot of "I love that color" comments from strangers, the '58 is still Colonial Cream.

Fathom Blue RPO 912
This Impala was purchased in 1978 for $500 and it was my daily driver for the next 15-years before a full restoration was completed. It's now powered by a 327ci engine and Turbo 400 automatic.

Silver Blue RPO 930
Here is a photo of our Silver Blue '58 Impala. We drive this Impala to all the shows and to date we've put just under 115,000 trouble-free, show miles on this great car! It's running the original 283 with Powerglide, factory A/C, power windows, power steering, Positraction and power brakes.

We purchased our '58 Impala in 1992. It features a 283ci power-pack engine. This car is so much fun to drive and we love the Tropic Turquoise color!

This '58 Impala convertible is powered by a 348ci Tri-power 280hp engine with Turbo-glide transmission. Our car has 28 factory options. You can find this Impala featured on the cover of the Fall/Winter 2008 cover of the Late Great Chevy parts catalog.

Snowcrest White RPO 936
My 1958 Impala convertible is powered by a 348ci engine, manual transmission and it has power brakes. The fender mirrors were dealer installed. This '58 spent most of its life in Crosby, North Dakota, but it now resides north of the border in New Brunswick, Canada. I plan to hang onto this Impala for many more years.

Honey Beige RPO 938
This 1958 Impala has 35,000 original miles, original interior, 283ci engine and Powerglide transmission. The original Honey Beige paint was repainted in 2002.

I have owned this 1958 Impala for 25-years: it is totally original with no modifications and still performs well. I have toured Canada, coast to coast, Vancouver BC to St John’s Newfoundland, over 7000 trouble free miles. I love to drive my Sierra Gold Impala!

Onyx Black/Artic White RPO 950
This 1958 Onyx black and Artic White Delray is quite the movie star. In 1993 this '58 was used in the filming of "The Bridges of Madison County", directed by Clint Eastwood. The only restoration of this Delray, 4-door sedan has been some minor paint touch-up. I spend as much time as possible cleaning and keep my '58 in top running condition.

Rio Red/Artic White RPO 973
This '58 Impala is powered by a tri-carb 348ci engine. I've added the following upgrades to this Impala: 700R4 transmission, power steering with tilt wheel, front power disc brakes and Vintage Air conditioning.

I've only owned my '58 Nomad wagon for about five weeks. I've already replaced the door panels, carpet and seat covers. It also received a much needed tune-up and new exhaust system. This Los Angeles-produced wagon features one-piece bumpers!
I love my new 50-year old wagon!

Colonial Cream/Artic White RPO 975
OK, it's not your typical show car, but my '58 wagon is the original two-tone Colonial Cream and Artic White. Talk about dependable, this wagon has been on two "Long Haul" Hot Rod Power Tours! Everything you can't see has been rebuilt and is perfect!
It's powered by a factory tri-power 348ci engine. It also has the following features: power steering, power brakes, Vintage Air A/C, dropped spindles, disc brakes, 700R4 transmission, hidden stereo, hidden subwoofer, hidden A/C controls, XM radio in glove box and custom made 16" and 17" steel wheels with wide whitewall tires.

Cashmere Blue/ Artic White RPO 960
I purchased this 1958 Bel Air 4-door hardtop in 2000 and at that time the odometer showed 82,000 miles. The body showed rust repairs and repaint and the interior also showed some wear. Over the next years many small repairs have been made. Right now I'm in the process of having the original 283 small block engine rebuilt. I've shown the Bel Air as is several times and am looking forward to many more years of enjoyment from this Late Great Chevy.

Silver Blue/Snowcrest White RPO 982
I have owned this '58 Impala 2-door hardtop for many years. I have always gotten great enjoyment from taking it for a cruise. Over the years, I have shown this Impala at many local and a few larger car shows and the Impala is always a winner whenever shown. I think it's a great example of the Silver Blue/ Snowcrest White color combination.

This '58 Nomad is my pride and joy and it's a blast to drive around town. People always give me the thumbs-up signal. I hope your readers enjoy the 1958, 29 original color tribute.

This Impala was restored about 19-years ago and it still looks and drives great. The engine is a 348ci, 250hp, with 4-barrel, dual exhaust and Powerglide transmission. At a recent Late Great Chevy Show the car scored 946 points and was awarded a Silver Certificate. We've added the fender skirts and plan to soon add disc brakes and a continental kit.

I've owned this Impala since 1994. It's equipped with a 348ci engine with Powerglide transmission. This car was restored in 1993 and has been garage-kept ever since. I have installed front disc brakes and a Vintage Air A/C unit. The question most often asked is, "Is that the original color?"

Honey Beige/Anniversary Gold RPO 986
Attached is a photo of my '58 Brookwood wagon in two-tone Honey Beige/Anniversary Gold. This wagon has an honest 19,600 miles on the odometer. It was sold new in January 1958 in West Virginia and built in November 1957 in Norwood, Ohio. At 207.1 inches it just fits into my garage.
