Momma's Bean Soup & Homemade Bread

By Robert Snowden

It seems like every time you turn around these days someone is talking about "comfort food" or a persons "comfort zone." Talk shows feature experts in these areas and the Food Channel is packed with "comfort food" experts. I don't pay much attention to all of these so called experts.  I figure I'm a pretty good judge of at least the "comfort food" category." For me, there will never be another comfort food as good as Momma's bean soup and homemade bread!

When you think about it, Chevy guys and gals are pretty much comfort-seeking people as well. Talk about your comfort zone, no greater zone exists than the family garage. A Chevy person can spend endless hours tinkering in the garage. This zone is often a gathering place for other Chevy guys and gals who are also seeking refuge. The gang can spend hours telling stories and exchanging ideas. A Chevy owner takes great pride in personalizing his or her own comfort zone. In this very issue of Chevy Classics, we're asking for photos of your "comfort zone" that you can submit to our “Crib” Contest, with your “crib” being one in the same as your comfort zone/garage.

Another comfort zone for the Chevy enthusiast is the car show. At the car show, a person can reunite with old friends, enjoy some great food and drink and just kick back and relax. Chevy enthusiasts always carefully mark the car show calendar, making sure that no show is missed. The true comfort seekers will often travel hundreds of miles to attend their favorite show.

Obviously, a Chevy owner's favorite comfort zone is behind the wheel of his or her Chevrolet. Slide behind that huge steering wheel and fond memories will flood back into your mind. These memories may include the restoration (working with friends to get that motor in place), a recent car show or cruising with friends to the local drive-in.
When you put it all together - working in the garage - attending car shows - and sitting behind the wheel of the old Chevy, you have something almost as good as Momma's bean soup and homemade bread!
