1-95 in Dire Straits

Traveling from Maine to Florida, Interstate 95 should be one of America’s finest highways.  Spanning over 1,900 miles across 15 states (more than any other interstate), this route supplanted America’s original post road.  Yet, like most of the roads and highways in America it does not receive enough investment to be maintained properly. According to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, congestion on I-95 has risen to an all-time high. The Texas A&M Transport Institute has calculated that highway congestion costs commuters and businesses $160 billion nationally – in fuel and time – and that congestion costs have
