The History of the 1969 ZL1 Corvette In 1969, Chevrolet unveiled a run of all-aluminum block Camaros, and a few select Corvettes with the same drivetrain. This made for one of the rarest Corvettes ever. The 1969 C3 Stingray fitted with the allaluminum ZL1 engine, and only a handful of ’Vettes originally came equipped with the ZL1, but many racecars were later upgraded to include the ZL1 and produced upwards of 750 HP.
