Half-way Between

When describing the new Chevelle line for 1964, Chief Engineer E J Premo said; “The new Chevelle line of passenger vehicles were situated approximately half-way between the Chevrolet and the Chevy II in size, the surprising roominess and gracious accommodations of this new car should please the value conscious buyer.” For the next nineteen years the names Chevelle and Malibu would be the strongholds for the mid-size Chevrolet market. I’m sure in 1964 the top brass at Chevrolet had no idea that in a few short years this mild mannered economy designed Chevelle line would turn into the most popular muscle car line Chevrolet ever produced.
