In this issue of Chevy Classics, we featured Julio Aponte’s Marina Blue 1966 SS 396 Chevelle. As Chevy made strides to compete in the growing muscle car market, the Chevelle became the ideal mid-size muscle car for racers and hot rodders alike. MARINA BLUE 1966 SS 396 CHEVELLE One of GM’s most successful vehicles, the Chevelle was introduced in 1964 and produced until 1977. The key appeal of the muscle car was maximum performance for minimal cash. This played to Chevy’s strengths as a maker of affordable and attractive cars. For the 1964 model year, Chevy introduced the Chevelle SS,
