Weatherstrip 101

weatherstripby R.J. Schmieder

Everyone who owns a classic car, or even a daily driver, has had to replace at least some weatherstripping on their ride. It most certainly does not last forever! It either breaks down due to ultraviolet rays or just from the repeated opening and closing of a door or trunk lid. The difficulty is selecting the best replacement weatherstrip for your car. GM makes weatherstrip, but as the cars get older, they discontinue it and then we’re dependent on the aftermarket.

As most of you know by now, India has been a big supplier of weatherstripping for years. There are still a few companies that make it here in the good old U.S.A. though, but just a few.
